Island Pride Garden Company was started in 1989 in Wood Islands as
Island Pride Farms. In 2007, we created the new name of Island Pride
Garden Company. This family
operation expanded from the one location in Wood Islands since 1989 to a second
location with the purchase of a new garden centre in Hunter River in
2006.
The founder, manager, co-owner and grower John Keuper watches over the
operation from growing to selling. He graduated with a degree in plant
science from the University of Vermont in
1980. He has many years experience as a grower and manager at greenhouse operations from Seattle, Washington to Boston, Massachusetts and here on
Prince Edward Island. John is often a guest speaker at the garden club,
garden shows and other community groups across PEI. He is a resource to
his staff, his wholesale and retail customers. He frequents trade shows
and conferences and brings back his knowledge to share with staff and to
initiate new ideas into this business. On a daily basis, he is on location
to ensure that the plants have the environment they need. His skills involves monitoring growth conditions, such as
temperature, germination, water and fertility conditions as well as
hardening them off. His wife, Anne and children Emily and Christina
assist with the many aspects of the garden centre. Each variety of
annual, perennial and nursery plant is chosen and grown to do
well In the PEI climate.

A little wet and hard work do not diminish the
cheery spirit of the staff. |
